2025 Course Dates

The Theory of Dry Needling module covers the theoretical knowledge necessary to use Dry Needling as a treatment modality and is a self-study home course. This module is a prerequisite for any of the Practical Modules.

Our Course

The Dry Needling Course is designed in accordance with the South African Society of Physiotherapy (SASP) standard guidelines for dry needling training. It is accredited for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) by the SASP accreditation committee with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). This accreditation ensures high training standards and permits professionals who complete the course to legally utilize the techniques taught.

Theory Module

The Theory Module is a self-study course comprising a theory manual and videos. Participants must complete a theory quiz with a passing score of 75%. This module covers the physiology and mechanisms of dry needling and the clinical reasoning necessary to apply the technique effectively and safely. The Theory Module is a prerequisite for and is included with, enrollment in Practical Module 1

Practical Module 1

Practical Module 1 includes the Gluteus Maximus, Gluteus Medius, Gluteus Minimus, Piriformis, Tensor Fascia Lata, adductor muscles of the hip, Quadriceps, Hamstrings, Gastrocnemius, Soleus, Tibialis Anterior, Peroneal Group, Deltoids, Biceps Brachii, Brachialis, Triceps, Anconeus, supinator, hand and finger flexors palmaris longus, wrist extensors and brachioradialis, extensor digitorum & extensor inidicis, adductor & opponens pollicis, interossei of the hand and abductor digiti minimi,

Practical Module 2

Practical Module 2 includes the Abdominal muscles, iliopsoas, serratus anterior, serratus posterior superior, serratus posterior inferior, rhomboid major & minor, teres minor & major, latissimus dorsi, trapezius, Infraspinatus, Supraspinatus, levator scapulae, Coracobrachialis, pectoralis major, quadratus lumborum, multifidus, splenius capitis & splenius cervicis, semispinalis capitis and cervicis, sternocleidomastoid, masseter and temporalis

PHYSIOTHERAPIST

Koos
Bierman

Koos Bierman is a visually impaired physiotherapist based in Bloemfontein. He works in the outpatient department of a tertiary hospital, where he also serves as a clinical supervisor for undergraduate physiotherapy students.

With 20 years of experience, Koos has a special interest in soft tissue and movement rehabilitation. He has been teaching dry needling since 2011 and is a dedicated student of all aspects of the technique. Koos prides himself on his comprehensive knowledge of human anatomy and his strong focus on palpation skills.
